I would agree with that...although I think it's more about the melodeath style they don't take on that melancholy feel so it's really what you prefer. That being said I think this album is better than "Heart Like a Grave". Insomnium is one of my favorite bands, but I was disappointed in the album.

Not that I only like this melancholic kind of melodeath, i love melodic death/thrash bands like The Crown and The Haunted, etc too and early in Flames was my favorite band back in the day. So nope, they (MPE) are decent enough to give this album a spin, but it not gonna be nowhere near as good as the great Heart Like a Grave. Thay just don't have that memorable songs. Dark Tranquillity will deliver something very good, though.

Don't get me wrong as a melo-death album "Heart Like a Grave" is fantastic, BUT as a Insomnium album it's my least favorite. Markus influence was too noticeable and the melancholy of past Insomnium was replaced by the hope of Omnium Gatherum. Now I love Omnium Gatherum and I love what they put out, but I don't want Insomnium to sound more like that if you get what I mean.

I as well love all the other bands you mentioned. I'm definitely with you on early In Flames. "Lunar Strain" is my favorite form their catalog.

I didn't hear anything any hope on HLaG, mostly sadness, but you have right to have your own opinion. I love In Flames up until Reroute to Remain, I tolerate them until a A Sense of Purpose. Now i hate what they've become, and they were my favourite band back in the day (long time ago).

<shrug> Well there ya go the power of subjective experiences. I always found Insomnium "sad" and Omnium Gatherum "hopeful". Enjoy your weekend \m/ :)
