The French fuzz quintet Butterfly Bulldozer makes a grand and immersive debut with an EP, showcasing quality and sharp rhythms. Originating from Nantes, they blend post-punk roots with deep 70s progressive themes, culminating in the modern sound of their first release, "The Great Becoming of Captain Fuzz," by the Belgian label Tempest of Noise. The EP contains five exploratory tracks that take us on a spaceship to the edges of reality, escaping ecological and political issues.
The frenzy kicks off with "BTF BDZ," featuring energetic punk rock vocals and a robotic, reverb-heavy atmosphere with a disturbing monologue. It concludes with a sweetly psychedelic reflection. "PR. TRICKS" presents a vibrant nature with an acoustic guitar riff and an exciting chorus, showcasing hard composition and excellent vocal intensity. "ROCKET" introduces a funky, danceable shift, a mental performance by the vocalist, and a timeless journey through a universe filled with intriguing stories. The final combo features a dramatic and personal moment in "OB-1," highlighting a skilled bass line and complex synth work, ending the EP with "TANK," the longest track that mixes popwave with nods to early The Clash.
Butterfly Bulldozer's debut impresses, offering a vibrant view of the world and a promising path in the current music scene.
